| This is the story of my girl "Princess" and the reason I got into raising and training dogs. First and most importantly I love dogs... all kinds of dogs, any size or shape but I do tend to lean a little more toward the bigger dogs, like the German Shepard, Siberian Husky and Golden Retriever, to name a few. One day, when I was 9 years old, I was walking down the street after an extremely heavy snowfall when I heard a peculiar sound. I went down into a drainage ditch to investigate the source, one to find a small and helpless puppy, frozen almost to death.. I picked her up,tucked her in side my coat and took her home. After much begging, crying and cajoling, with my mother telling me how much work it takes to raise and care for a puppy, she finally gave in and allowed me to keep "Princess". Being my first puppy, I started training her to the best of my 9 year old ability. It amazed and thrilled me to see how smart she was and her willingness to learn and to please me. It was surprisingly easy and fun to teach her simple commands and tricks. But from this simple training, my love and respect for all dogs grew into the passion i have for it today.. When I had Princess about one year, I discovered to my distress and sorrow, that the cold temperature had caused frost bite ,which in turn compromised Princess's immune system, causing a severe case of mange. Although my vet had given me medicine with which to treat her, and which I faithfully put on her everyday, to my heartbreak I could not cure her or significantly improve her condition. She was suffering so badly, we had no choice but to put her down. It was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. I just could not stand the pain that she was in, so I had to let my bay go. She was a great girl and I loved her very much! In Loving memory Princess, I will always miss you! |
